I have been HORRIBLE about updating our family blog but hope that I will have some time now to commit to it. I hope to use this as a way to keep everyone updated now that we’ve moved. Speaking of the move…it went very well! I could do without seeing a box for a few years but at least everything went smoothly. The boys were wonderful in the car and are enjoying our new house especially their new rooms! They also have a new BIG playroom so they have lots to keep them busy! I will try and get some pictures of our house posted up here in the very near future.

If you want to see some good, raw documentary action tune in tonight for WE tv’s premier of High School Confidential. On at 9pm central. In it Sharon Liese documents the lives of 12 girls over 4 years…all through high school. It’s very real and very eye-opening. The girls deal with everything from suicidal thoughts to eating disorders, pregnancy…and the list goes on.I had the pleasure of working with Sharon and 6 of the 12 girls for the March cover of Her Life Magazine. Although they won’t disclose the actual school calling it just “Northwest” the whole series was taped at local Blue Valley Northwest High School. Talking with Sharon was great, she’s very lively. It was fun seeing the interaction between her and the girls. You can tell this experience has brought them all very close. It looked to me like many of the girls look to Sharon as a mom-type figure asking her advice with school (they are now sophomores in college) and getting responses only a parent would give. I also couldn’t believe how “not” apprehensive the girls were that their personal lives will be broadcast around the country. But both Sharon and the girls really stress that they want this documentary to open up the lines of communication between teenagers and their parents. After talking with them and seeing some of the previews…it will!!So watch tonight!! I promise it won’t disappoint!

I know it’s been a long, cold winter for many families and we are no exception. I don’t know that there has been a week all season that one of us hasn’t had some kind of illness.

We started out with Griffin having an ear infection over Christmas (Trey was at the Dr. with him on Christmas Eve) then both boys had strep throat over New Year’s. Last week they ran low grade fevers and had a mild stomach virus. And through it all they have had snotty noses and horrible coughs. Quentin’s cough got so bad today that he threw up…ah, yes…all over ME!!! And that’s just the kids. Trey and I have both been on antibiotics this winter which neither of us have been for years. I have had a sinus infection every other week! I’ve given up on the meds and just continuously load myself up on vitamin C. But it never fails, as soon as I get over one round, about a week later, it comes back.

And so goes life with small children aka the carrier monkeys (as my Mom called them today.) Being at home since Q was born we have been lucky to avoid many illnesses, especially when they were babies. But now that Quentin is in preschool the game has changed. I feel like we need to put a sign in our front yard that reads ”sick house”. I know other families who have had it worse and been in and out of ER’s this winter. My heart seriously goes out to them!! It’s tough enough raising two healthy kids but adding sickness to the mix doubles the challenge.

Please hurry Spring…we are desperate for some sunshine and fresh air! We need to get out of the house and to the park. My carrier monkeys need to turn back into regular monkeys- and soon!!

I’m finally getting the hang of this blog and hope to be better about posting regularly.

Even though his birthday was at the end of January, I have to post about Q’s 4th Birthday party. It was at Pump it Up (an inflatable party place) and 15 of his closest friends came! They all had so much fun! They got to run, jump, climb, slide and get all the ants out of their pants! Being in the middle of winter, it was perfect! Q loved hanging with his friends and they all got along great! The kids (and some parents) got to mellow out at the end with some juice and a slice of his Batman cake! They were exhausted by the end of the 2 hour event and I’m sure most of the parents happily took their kids home to enjoy a good night’s rest.

My little boy is 4! I can’t believe how the time has flown. I’m so grateful and so proud to be his Mom. Quentin is such a friendly child and has a wonderfully gentle soul. He’s an absolute joy to be around. Trey and I are truly blessed and we know it!

Happy Birthday sweet boy!! I hope you stay just the way you are today….and you never stop jumping for joy!

Schools were canceled, people were freaking out all over the area because of the snow (we only got 2 inches), and the boys and I decided to stay inside and have a photo session. Afterall, what better use of the snow than to capture it’s brightness with my camera in the warmth of our kitchen! We set up a make-shift studio and got to work. The boys were surprisingly commited (for a minute) and I managed to get some pretty cute shots. Enjoy my little models!

Hess Vineyards – Did the tour and joined the club – what amatuers! We really did enjoy seeing one of the vineyards that produces great wine (Hess Collection Chard, Cab, among others). We had always been Hess Select junkies – but it was really nice to get the good stuff. Larry was our guide – he had purple teeth!!

Beringer Vineyards – After a brief morning stop at CIA/Greystone (I was in awe) we stopped by Beringer to start out our day. We chose to do the reserve tasting, and it was worth it. One of our favorite Chardonnay’s has always been Beringer Private Reserve. It just so happened to be on sale – so we made a purchase. We also got to taste 2 years worth of the Private Reserve cab and some other very fine wines. Very much worth the stop.

Merryvale Vineyards – This was somewhat of a disappointment. The building looked like a warehouse – we entered through the side in an alley, walking by the back bay of a restaurant (not very appetizing). The guy working the counter was creepy and annoying. We did our tasting and got out of there very quickly.

Whitehall Lane – One of my all time favorite Cab/Merlot. The facilities weren’t all that impressive, but the guy doing the tasting was interesting, and he hooked us up with more than just the tasting we had asked for. We bought some wine, and I thought about my friend Chris Harrington (I turned him on to this wine back in my Fuzion Cafe days).

Frog’s Leap – We went off the beaten path in Rutherford and drove past Caymus/Cakebread – we were tempted, but felt somewhat intimidated. So we went to Frog’s Leap to find one of the most beautiful places in the Napa Valley. The house that hosts the tastings (reservation only – though they gave us a glass of Sauvigon Blanc just for showing up) is beautiful – Whit said that this would be her dream house. When you walk outiside you see grape vines forever, a bountiful garden, and in all directions the hills that grow the finer wines of the area. Just breathtaking. When we return (yes, we will be back) we will make it a priority to make a reservation for a tasting there.

ZD Vineyards – I actually did a wine dinner one time that featured ZD wines @ Fuzion – great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (my two favorites), so we stopped in for a bit. Nice facilities, good wine – we made a purchase and moved on.

Franciscan – No biggie - we stopped in and did a tasting. Great tasting room (high ceilings, I think it looked kind of like a library) – we did the tasting and moved on. We did get a free glass though!

Silverado – In the Silverado valley we hit Silverado, which is situated up on a hill overlooking the valley. Good wine, interesting people working there, and a beautiful view. We would recommend this one. Made a purchase and moved on – because at this point we were on a roll!!

Stags Leap – Stags Leap is notable for many reasons. Number one – they make great wine. Number two – Nanette @ Fuzion used to gush over the Fay and Cask 23 releases. Number 3 – Whitney bought me a bottle of 1975 Stags Leap Cab for my 30th birthday (and it was delicious). We had a great tasting – lingered a bit on the beautiful grounds – made a purchase – and moved on.

Clos du Val – Sensing that we were running out of time we started hitting wineries that we didn’t really want to hit. The manly woman working there was very unpleasant, but that didn’t stop us. We made a purchase just to show that we were good people.

Chimney Rock – Last winery of the trip, so we had some fun taking pictures in the vineyard. We chose Chimney Rock because we hadn’t really heard of it/tasted their wine (and because they were still open – while others had shut down for the day). Inside it was a bar type atmosphere. People were begging/pleading for more pours, more flights – we just stood there and enjoyed the wine and reflected on a great day. We made our largest purchase – and got two free glasses to take with us because it was our anniversary.

As crazy as it sounds – we actually had time to eat lunch on Friday (Hurley’s in Yountville – Whitney loved it), and still made it out for a great dinner that evening (Bistro Jeanty in downtown Napa).

Tips

Ask questions

Split tastings

Drink Water and Eat

Don’t Set a Strict Schedule – the wineries you don’t get to will still be there when you go back!
